The report 'For every child, a fair chance: The promise of equity' presents a statistical summary of how the world's most marginalized children have fared against basic human development indicators. The report makes the case for closing persistent gaps in equity, arguing that investing in children, particularly the most vulnerable, is right in principle and right in practice, and that such investment brings multiple benefits not only to children but also to their families, communities and economies.

A Promise Renewed

This report was prepared by by UNICEF’s Division of Data, Research, and Policy in collaboration with the Programme Division and the Secretariat for A Promise Renewed.

Since its initiation in 2012, A Promise Renewed has focused on promoting the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 4 of reducing the under-five mortality rate by two-thirds between 1990 and 2015, and continuing the effort until no child or mother dies from preventable causes. The vision and principles advocated by A Promise Renewed – political commitment, accountability and social mobilization to end preventable child deaths in all countries within a generation – are to be taken up in the Sustainable Development Goals to be launched later this month.

UNICEF Annual Report 2014

UNICEF Annual Report 2014 outlines UNICEF’s ongoing efforts to realize the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged, and break the intergenerational cycle of inequity and poverty. In 2014, UNICEF programmes helped millions of children to be nourished and healthy, to learn, to be protected and safe. It was a year of high points – including the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child – and a year of crises in which UNICEF responded to 300 emergency situations in 98 countries. Throughout the year, UNICEF worked to advance the global conversation on children and equity.

Sendai Framework for action for 2015-2030

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 was adopted at the Third UN World Conference in Sendai, Japan, on March 18, 2015. It is the outcome of stakeholder consultations initiated in March 2012 and inter-governmental negotiations from July 2014 to March 2015, supported by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction at the request of the UN General Assembly.
